Credit Policy Officer:

Job Description: 

The Credit Policy Officer, will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing credit policies specific to agricultural lending. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agricultural finance, risk assessment, and policy development, with a focus on ensuring prudent credit decisions aligned with regulatory standards and the bank’s risk appetite. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive credit policies and guidelines for agriculture-related loan products. 

  • Analyze market trends, industry data, and regulatory updates to ensure credit policies remain current and effective. 

  • Collaborate with credit risk, lending, and compliance teams to ensure policy implementation across branches and regions. 

  • Assess and recommend changes to credit limits, collateral requirements, and risk mitigation strategies. 

  • Provide training and support to credit officers and loan officers on agriculture credit policies and risk assessment. 

  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging risks within the agricultural sector. 

  • Support product development teams with input on credit structure for new agri-financing solutions. 

  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders on matters related to agricultural credit policies. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor in Agriculture, Finance, Economics, or related field. 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in agricultural lending, credit policy, or risk management in a banking or financial institution. 

  • Strong understanding of rural credit markets, crop cycles, agri-business financing, and sector-specific risks. 

  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines related to priority sector lending and agricultural finance. 

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Ability to interpret and apply credit data and agricultural sector trends to policy development. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with credit analysis. 

  • Certification in credit risk management or agricultural finance is a plus.
